Four of us two couples will be coming to St. Martin in Aug. Anyone with suggestions and opinions would be greatly appreciated. We want a hotel that is on the beach; for Maho I was looking at Sonesta, but i hear the beach isn't the best. Also, for Grand Case and Orient, which hotels would be best to 'walk out the back door and be on a great beach'? We want to go to topless,but not necessarily nude areas. I know about Orient, but how much topless and nudity is there at Grand Case? What about at Maho, I thought the Dutch side there was no topless, but now I hear maybe there is? What about nightlife at these locations? How late do taxis run?

My husband just told someone at work that we are planning to go to st. Maarten and he told him that there is a lot of nude beaches there. Are there really, we plan on staying at sonesta great bay on the Dutch side.

Some of St. Maarten's beaches change shape and size according to the whims of weather. They range from places with lots of surf to quiet, nearly deserted coves. How family friendly is the beach? I've read that topless sunbathing is the norm on the island and would like to avoid that if possible. Also, is it better to take a taxi from the cruise port, or rent a car which appears to be cheaper? Maho Beach and the beachfront in Philipsburg are family friendly.
